BIRGITTA - LINNUTKIN ITKEVÄT TAIVAALLA
It’s a wedding. The church is full of people, flowers, and anticipation. Everything is ready. Except for the bride.
The groom is kind. Way too kind. The best man stares a little too long. The leopard-print leggings take up a space that someone else thought was theirs. And in the midst of it all, the narrator speaks directly to the audience, already knowing how this will end.
Live music plays on stage. The tango plays over and over again. The celebration intensifies, spirals out of control, and goes a little too far. And then even further.
*Birgitta - Even the Birds Cry in the Sky* is Dance Theater Rimpparemmi’s fall premiere on October 16 at Kulttuuritalo Wiljami. Directed by Matti Paloniemi, the wedding transforms into a visual avalanche where beauty and roughness go hand in hand. There’s no holding back on the grit and rough edges, nor are emotions sugarcoated. It’s absurd, physical, and relatable. Laughter comes quickly but gets a little stuck in your throat.
BIRGITTA - EVEN THE BIRDS CRY IN THE SKY
People find their way to one another and perhaps discover something they weren’t even looking for.
Running time: approx. 2 hours
